Toyota GR GT could get an open-top version

1 Min Read

Toyota could be adding more variety to its upcoming flagship sports car, with reports suggesting an open-top version of the Toyota GR GT is already in development.

According to fresh details, the coupe may be joined by an “Aero Top” variant featuring a removable roof panel. It’s a familiar concept for Toyota fans. The Aero Top name has already been used on the fourth-generation Supra, offering a targa-style setup where the roof above the occupants could be lifted out while keeping the rest of the structure intact.

This approach delivers open-air driving without sacrificing rigidity entirely—a sweet spot between a coupe and a full convertible. Whether production of this version will be limited remains unclear for now.

Alongside the targa-style model, a hotter, track-focused variant is also expected. Prototypes of multiple GR GT versions have already been spotted testing at the Nurburgring.

The standard GR GT is powered by a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, paired with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels, with combined output quoted at 478 kW (640 hp) and 850 Nm (627 lb ft).
