General Motors has reportedly shelved plans to turn the Chevrolet Corvette into a standalone sub-brand, putting an end to proposals for some new additions to the sports car family. Among them were an electric four-door sedan and a Corvette-inspired SUV.
The idea was first drawn up in 2022, two years after the C8-generation Corvette made its debut. The expanded range was expected to include higher-volume models built on GM’s BEV Prime electric platform.

One of the proposed models was an electric SUV, internally known as V284, which would have carried Corvette design cues in a crossover body. A four-door electric sedan was also reportedly part of the plan.
GM has neither confirmed nor denied the proposed sub-brand. However, GM Authority suggests the programme has been dropped partly due to slower-than-expected sales of the company’s electric vehicles.
