Just when it seemed like the Civic Type R was fading into the background in Australia, Honda has decided to give enthusiasts another shot. Despite the tightening emissions regulations in the country, the Japanese auto giant has promised to reopen its order books for the popular hot hatch after a prolonged drought.
As per reports, a fresh stock of the Civic Type R is confirmed for later this year. If you’ve been waiting, you’re not alone. The last batch, secured earlier this year, was snapped up exclusively by buyers who had already registered interest, leaving many enthusiasts out in the cold once again.

But don’t celebrate just yet. Supply will remain tight, and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. The bigger challenge lies in Australia’s New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES), which is forcing manufacturers to rethink high-performance offerings. Cars like the Civic Type R, with their unapologetically aggressive output, make it harder for brands to balance fleet emissions unless offset by cleaner alternatives.
And then there’s the price. The latest allocation carried a hefty tag of $85,500 drive-away, a sharp climb over previous years. Expect that trajectory to continue.
