Showcased earlier this year as a concept, the Honda Civic Type R HRC could hit production sooner than expected. And this time, it doesn’t look like Japan will be the only one getting it.
Speaking at the Honda All Type R World Meeting 2026 in Japan, Honda Racing Corporation president Koji Watanabe hinted, albeit playfully, that a production version could arrive sooner than expected, possibly within months. And this isn’t just a visual upgrade.

Watanabe’s remarks also suggest Honda is looking beyond its home market. The plan, as hinted, is to focus deployment “mainly in Japan and the United States.” That’s a big deal. The current FL5 Type R already enjoys a cult following in the US, and an HRC model would only grow that appeal.
The Honda Civic Type R HRC would come equipped with some serious hardware upgrades, such as sharper suspension tuning, reworked aerodynamics, improved steering feel, stronger brakes, and a more focused chassis setup. Many of these components are already being tested in Super GT and endurance racing.
