Revealed just last month, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 has now set a new record at the Nordschleife Nurburgring. The EV has become the fastest car in its segment to go around the Green Hell.
According to Mercedes-AMG, the CLA 45 EV has successfully completed a lap around the Nurburgring in a record time of 7:32:070, clocking an average speed of 165.57 kmph (102.88 mph).
Interestingly, though, Mercedes-AMG has also announced that these figures are provisional. It has also said that there are no confirmed figures from an officially recognised testing organisation, nor is there an EC type-approval or a certificate of conformity containing official figures. There may be discrepancies between the figures provided and the official figures. We are expecting the “official” figures to be confirmed and announced in the near future.
The Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 is equipped with a tri-motor setup: two motors at the rear and one at the front, delivering a combined 671 hp to all four wheels. The rear motors can operate independently, enabling true torque vectoring, and the front motor only joins in when needed. The saloon version can accelerate from 0–62 mph in 3.0 seconds and tops out at 155 mph, or 168 mph with the AMG Dynamic Plus pack.
