The Lexus LFR may never reach showrooms, but newly surfaced Japanese patent drawings give us a look at what Toyota’s flagship sports car could have looked like with a Lexus badge.
The LFR and GR GT share most of their bodywork because much of the development had already been completed when Toyota decided to shift the project toward the GR brand. Since the car was engineered around racing from the beginning, there wasn’t much scope for a major redesign.

Still, the Lexus version had some distinctive touches. Up front, the spindle-shaped design flowed from the bonnet into the bumper, while the grille and headlights featured subtle differences from the GR GT.

The rear is where things get more interesting. The LFR used offset, semi-stacked exhaust outlets inspired by Lexus F models, rather than the GR GT’s side-by-side tips. The bumper also featured different mesh treatment and more distinctive tail lights, with a design resembling the Lexus NX.

Whether you preferred the Lexus LFR or the GR GT, the wait is almost over. Toyota has said deliveries of the GR GT are planned to begin late this year, so pricing and specifications should follow soon.
