BYD’s luxury Yangwang brand appears to be preparing an SUV that could lock horns with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. A camouflaged prototype has been spotted undergoing high-temperature testing in Turpan, China.

The new SUV has a long, upright silhouette that immediately brings the Cullinan to mind. It also sits noticeably lower to the ground when parked, although it remains unclear whether this is due to adjustable air suspension. The prototype rides on low-profile wheels with a distinctly Maybach-inspired design.

A single LiDAR sensor is mounted on the roof above the windscreen, a familiar sight on modern Chinese new-energy vehicles. The SUV is expected to feature BYD’s DiPilot 600 assisted-driving system, known as God’s Eye in China, although the additional LiDAR sensors associated with the system have not been spotted.

The powertrain remains a mystery for now, with no technical details revealed. If it reaches production as expected, this could become Yangwang’s flagship SUV.
