Portimao : Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car flies into the Grandstand

Alex Areia had a close call at a practice session at Portimao. As part of the Porsche Sprint Challenge, Areia’s 991.2-gen 911 GT3 Cup car lost its brakes and landed backwards in the grandstand. Thankfully, the stands were empty preventing any injuries to the spectators.

How the incident unfolded?

As per the video available, Areia’s car went past a corner at full speed, and overshot the braking zone. It then went into the gravel trap and skidded towards a tire barrier. The car then hit the barrier and jumped over the protective fence landing in the stands backwards.

Further, the person filming this video was sitting just a few sections away from where the car landed up.

Alex Areia also shared on Twitter post the incident that he was well and uninjured. He also confirmed that there were no spectators present as well. The primary reason for the crash was the failure of the brakes.
