An ultra-rare McLaren P1 HDK by Lanzante is up for sale at the Mecum Auctions next week in Monterey, CA. With only 9 road-legal P1 HDKs built, the upcoming event offers a rare opportunity to add one of these track-focused hypercars to your collection.

The P1 HDK being offered is chassis no. 003, finished in Cherry Bomb Red with Black stripes. The car was repainted by McLaren-certified Karosserie of Wayne, Pennsylvania. It has 3,122 miles on the odometer.

The P1 HDK (High Downforce Kit) is named after the McLaren F1 HDK from the 1990s. It is essentially a standard P1 that has been modified into a road-legal P1 GTR by UK-based specialists Lanzante.

Unlike the standard P1, the P1 HDK gets the large fixed wing from the track-only P1 GTR. It also has a low-slung splitter in the front and louvres on the fenders. The car is seen here with the 9-spoke centrelock wheels, which can be swapped out for a set of racing wheels.

The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has been bored out to 4.0-liters and now produces 1058 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Lanzante has also updated the suspension setup to handle the increased downforce. Gold heat shields in the engine bay are a nod to the original McLaren F1.
