Step aside, Bugatti and Koenigsegg. There’s a new speed king. BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric hypercar now holds the record for the world’s fastest production car.
The U9 Xtreme reached a top speed of 503.17 km/h, or 312.65 mph, to secure the Guiness World Record. The Chinese EV is not just the fastest production car in the world but also the fastest EV.

The U9 Xtreme set the record on the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (E11), in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra Region, on 1 November 2026. It was driven by sports car and endurance racer Marc Basseng.
The Yangwang U9X first set a benchmark in January 2024, clocking 309 km/h (192 mph) at Wuhan Hannan Airport in China. Later that year, it managed to reach 391.94 km/h (244 mph) at ATP Papenburg in Germany.

In August 2025, the U9X reached a top speed of 472.41 km/h (293.54 mph), closing in on the 500 km/h mark. A month later, the car achieved 496.22 km/h, breaching the 300 mph mark for the first time.
For the record run, the U9X was fitted with Giti Tyres. The tyre brand also made it into the record books as the fastest EV tyre and the fastest road car tyre in the world.
Earlier this month, the U9X had crashed while chasing 310 km/h. While the car was completely destroyed, the driver escaped unscathed, albeit a bit shaken.
