The BMW i7 is only the beginning of Rimac’s partnership with the German carmaker. Mate Rimac has confirmed that two more vehicles are in the pipeline, although he hasn’t revealed which models will get the jointly developed battery technology.

The i7 is the first BMW to use this system, which brings together the brand’s latest Gen6 4695 cylindrical cells with its earlier Gen5 module-based technology. The resulting architecture is scalable and can be adapted for different vehicles. Rimac manufactures the battery systems at its campus near Zagreb, Croatia.

BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse models could be among the next recipients, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

Mate Rimac also shared an interesting detail about how the deal came together. During an early visit to the Rimac Campus, BMW executives were told about a dedicated production line planned for the company, even though no contract had been signed. Rimac simply told them: “I’m building it for you.” That confidence eventually helped secure the business.
