Ford Mustang GTD leaked; is this the rumored mid-engine model?

Ford will unveil a very special Mustang at Pebble Beach. If you think the new Dark Horse is special, how about a mid-engine Mustang?

The Ford Mustang GTD is the most hardcore, track-focused version of the Mustang we’ve seen till now. It looks like the street-legal Mustang GT3 that CEO Jim Farley had hinted at back in March 2023.

Let’s be honest, the Mustang GTD looks wild! The car has a wide body kit featuring an aggressive front fascia and a large splitter. There are massive extractor vents on the front fenders too.

Moving to the rear, the flared wheel arches house an intake duct, never seen on a Mustang. The car also has a massive top-mounted spoiler and a diffuser at the back.

While technical details of the new Mustang GTD haven’t been revealed yet, it is unlikely to be based on the S650 platform. Reports also suggest that it could have the engine mounted in the middle in true supercar style.

According to Ford Authority, the Mustang GTD was shown to a select group of customers in Las Vegas on August 14. The car will be manufactured by Multimatic, who also built the Ford GT.

The Ford Mustang GTD will make its public debut at Pebble Beach later this week.
