Is Aston Martin planning to launch a new Vantage GT12?
The Aston Martin Vantage GT12 was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The special edition featured a racing-inspired aero kit and a V12 engine up front. A test mule with a similar body kit was recently spotted near the Nurburgring. Could this be the new Vantage GT12?
The prototype is based on the pre-facelift V12 Vantage with the slimmer headlights. The first thing you notice is the massive spoiler at the back. It is similar to the GT3-spec that was bolted onto the GT12. Next up is the extended splitter at the front, which again appears to be derived from the race car.
A close inspection of the rear end reveals more interesting details. The carbon fibre diffuser has triple exhausts mounted in the centre instead of the twin pipes on a standard V12 Vantage.
The old Vantage GT12 had a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V12 engine under the hood. It produced 600 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. The new model could use the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 with 690 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque on tap.
If this is indeed a prototype of the next Vantage GT12, it is likely to be built in limited numbers. Aston Martin had built 100 examples of the old coupe and a one-off GT12 Roadster.
