Interview: Quick Chat with the Owner of 50+ Exotic Supercars

You may be the kind of person who has several Hot Wheels lying around in your bedroom drawer. You get excited when a new model comes out and you can’t wait to add it to your collection. We recently got a chance to meet one such collector, except that this person had a rather special collection. And we mean hot wheels in the literal sense.

We will not be disclosing his name for the sake of privacy. Also, we have edited out some bits of this interview in which he makes some startling revelations about a few upcoming supercars. However, we will be publishing that information in the near future. So, stay tuned for that.

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak with me.

My pleasure.

How many cars do you have in your collection?

About 44 cars. This year the collection will see new additions taking the total number to over 50.

Maserati MC12 successor considered

Do you have a favorite?

Ah, this is always difficult to answer. In terms of  modern “bodywork” I would say the the Maserati MC12 or the Pagani Huayra, but in terms of driving pleasure the Bugatti Chiron tops the list.

Did you get the new “Holy Trinity” (Aston Martin Valkyrie, Mercedes-AMG One, and the McLaren Speedtail)?

I tried, but I couldn’t get the Valkyrie.

So you got the Speedtail and the AMG One?

Yes

When will they be delivered?

The AMG One will be delivered in 2021 and the Speedtail in 2020.

Have you decided on your specification for the AMG One and Speedtail?

I have already done the final spec session for the Speedtail. The final spec for the AMG One will be done later this year.

Koenigsegg Jesko-Ragnarok-2019 Geneva Motor Show-2

The 2019 Geneva Motor Show was full of incredible hypercars. Did you place any new orders?

I had already ordered a Koenigsegg Jesko in 2018.

During our private conversation this morning you told me that according to you, the best “supercar” of all time is the McLaren F1. Did you know that Gordon Murray is developing a successor the F1?

Yes, for me the F1 is the most “special”. It has an atmospheric V12, a central driving position and it is very light. As far as the T50 is concerned, I am aware of it and I have already seen the concept at Guildford.

Did you like it?

I really liked it very much. I even ordered one. It’s the new F1.

Can you tell us more about it?

No sorry, I signed an NDA.

No problem, when will this be delivered?

Two to three years, I think.

All right, let’s talk about future cars. Earlier, you told me that you have some great things coming up in the next three years.

Lamborghini Terzo Millennio concept 1

Oh yes, a lot of incredible cars are coming.

For example, the new Lamborghini, codenamed LB48H.

Yes I have seen this car. A clay model at a private event in Sant’Agata, almost a year ago.

Did you order it? What can you tell us about this car?

Yes, I have placed an order. There were almost 200 people at this event. So, you had to be really determined to have one. There will only be 63 copies in all. It has the naturally aspirated V12 engine from the Aventador with a hybrid system that is never seen on a car.

What about the looks?

It’s unbelievable!

Are rumors about the “Shine in the dark” feature true?

When I saw the sculpture of the car in 2018, I don’t think they mentioned it. But, since receiving the confirmation of my purchase, I have been updated on the development of the car. What I understand is that it will have something to that effect.

Can you tell us the price of this car?

I don’t remember the exact figure, but I think it’s $2.5 million.

Can you tell us the power or the weight of this car?

I don’t think I am supposed to and anyway I don’t know it exactly.

Bugatti Divo Pebble Beach 4

There is also a Bugatti, or at least an event I should say…

Oh yes, this year Bugatti is celebrating 110 years of the brand and there are many events lined up for Bugatti owners.

There will be something special coming out in September, right?

Yes, even before…

Can you say more about that?

No, I’m sorry, but I really can’t.

Earlier you told me that you had a long history with Bugatti….

Yes, I had an EB110, two Veyron Super Sports, a Grand Sport and a Chiron.

A future Divo?

I couldn’t get one. The 40 copies were sold out so quickly. But, I am hoping to get the next one.

The next one? The one that will be presented in September?

(Smile)

Let’s talk about Aston Martin now.

With pleasure. Aston Martin is probably the brand that has evolved the most in the right direction.

Let’s talk about an Aston Martin you can’t have – the Valkyrie. I believe that one of your friends had a better chance of getting one?

Yes, indeed and even a special model of the Valkyrie

A special model!? Are you talking about the AMR Pro?

No, not the AMR Pro. I’m talking about an unannounced version.

Wow, that’s really big news! Can you tell us more about it?

The only thing I know is that this version is limited to 10 copies. It includes features that Aston Martin believes would have made the production car too expensive.

When you see the Valkyrie, it’s hard to believe that it could be made even more extreme.

That however is the case.

I look forward to seeing that.

Me too.

aston-martin-db4-gt-zagato-continuation-and-dbs-gt-zagato-1

Let’s talk about an Aston Martin that will be your garage in 2021 – the DBS GT Zagato.

Oh yes. And don’t forget the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation that will arrive in 2020.

Yes. These cars can only be bought together, right?

Yes. These are part of the DBZ Centenary Collection.

You told me earlier that you thought it was the most beautiful modern car.

Yes. She’s really incredible, believe me.

Can you tell us more about that?

No, I have signed an NDA.

Which is the cheapest car you have ever bought and since we’re on the topic, can you also tell me the most expensive car you’ve ever purchased.

The cheapest was a Peugeot 205 GTI 1.6L in 1989. But, I don’t remember the exact price. I actually bought it from my father. At the time, it was a really cool car and it still is, in my opinion.

Yes, it’s a really good car. And the most expensive?

I would prefer not to reveal it because there are really very few left in the world. (Smile)

I understand. Could you give us a price range?

Let’s say, between $18 million and $25 million but these are estimates.

Wow, that’s really a lot. Is it modern or classic?

Classic.

This morning you gave me a little tour of your garage. You really have a varied and unique collection.

Yes, I don’t really have a personal preference between modern or classic cars. I find both exciting.

That explains why you have the Ferrari F40, Enzo, and LaFerrari in your collection.

Yes, my goal is to find a 288 GTO and an F50 in the future.

Oh, to complete the collection, right?

Yes.

I wish you good luck then.

Thank you. In fact, I have already found an F50.

Perfect, then. Earlier I asked you which was your favorite car from the collection. As a follow up to that question, I would like to ask you which car are you most looking forward to.

Ah, a really tough question…

Yes, I imagine there are so many incredible cars to come!

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the AMG One is capable of. But, I would say that the car I’m most looking forward to right now is the DBS GT Zagato,

Thank you very much for your time and hospitality.

With pleasure.
