Apart from unveiling the BMW Alpine Vision Concept at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the German brand showcased a very special automobile – the BMW M3 E30 pickup truck. Yeah, it’s a real thing!
BMW brought the pickup truck to celebrate the M3’s 40th anniversary. Interestingly, it was built back in 1986 to mark the early days of the original M3. It started life as an E30 convertible, chosen for its reinforced structure, which made it easier to transform into a functional pickup.

Initially, it ran a detuned 2.0L engine producing 192 hp. Later, BMW upgraded it with the proper 2.3L S14 engine from the road-going M3. But what makes it truly special?
Well, the BMW M3 E30 pickup wasn’t a marketing stunt or a limited-run collectable. It spent decades doing actual work within BMW – hauling parts, moving equipment, living a life far removed from concours lawns and collector garages. It has been well taken care of and is still up and running.
