The Chevrolet Corvette isn’t giving up its V8 just yet, but General Motors has confirmed that an all-electric version is still part of the plan. The tricky part is figuring out when it will actually happen.
Tony Roma, GM’s executive chief engineer for Corvette and Performance Cars, recently discussed the future of America’s sports car on The Drivecast. Asked about an electric Corvette, Roma said, “Someday there will be an electric Corvette,” adding that fully electric cars are ultimately the end goal.

That’s essentially the same direction GM president Mark Reuss outlined back in 2022, when he confirmed plans for an electric Corvette. More than four years later, though, there is still no production car to show for it.
Roma isn’t putting a timeline on the project either. His message was simple: “Someday we will fully electrify Corvette. But not today.”

That could mean the future EV eventually sits alongside a petrol-powered Corvette rather than replacing it outright. For now, GM hasn’t revealed which generation will receive the electric treatment.
So, Corvette fans can relax for a little longer. The V8 still has time, but its eventual replacement is clearly being discussed.
