The Porsche Mission S Concept has only just been revealed, but we’re already getting an idea of what it sounds like. A new social media video captures the car slowly moving into position, followed by a few gentle revs that bring its exhaust note to life.

And yes, it sounds promising, with a few satisfying burbles as the revs rise. Porsche hasn’t revealed the powertrain yet, but reports suggest the new flagship could use an all-new flat-eight engine. Does the sound in this video give us an early clue? We’ll let you decide.

The Mission S sits on a new mid-engined platform positioned above the 911 and is expected to become a spiritual successor to the 918 Spyder.

Its design mixes modern Porsche cues with inspiration from the 550 Spyder and 917. Wide fenders, slim rear lights, an integrated spoiler and vertically stacked quad exhausts give it serious presence, while the top-mounted engine fan is a particularly cool touch.

Whatever is hiding under that engine cover, the first sound check has certainly got our attention.
