Aston Martin DBS 59: Here is the First Superleggera Special Edition

Based on the DBS Superleggera, the Aston Martin DBS 59 is a celebration of that one time in Le Mans history – in 1959 to be precise – when the team finished 1-2.

What you see in the image is the first of a 24-unit special edition run featuring the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Titled the Aston Martin DBS 59, this fine creation from Q by Aston Martin commemorates that 1-2 finish made by Aston Martin in the 1959 Le Mans race with the DBR1 racing machine. Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby were piloting the winning car while Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frere were driving the DBR1 which finished second.

Back in November 2018, the Gaydon-based carmaker had announced their plans to build a limited edition of the DBS Superleggera which will see 24 cars coming out of the facility to celebrate the historic win. That’s one car each to mark every hour of the 24 hour-long Le Mans race. After such a long wait, the first copy of the finished product has come out to reveal itself and it is gorgeous to behold.

Commissioned by Aston Martin Cambridge, the DBS 59 is finished in Aston Martin Racing Green. A gloss finish carbon-fiber roof, bronze details, a special front grille, bespoke 21-inch wheels, a bronze inlay with the outline of the DBR1 on the aeroblade and individually numbered roundel painted on the front fenders make the Aston Martin DBS 59 a devastatingly good looking car.

Inside, it’s acres of Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan leather. But what we love the most must be the interior material used for the seatback and door insert – an immaculate replication of the seat material used in the original DBR1. You also got to appreciate the embroidery on the sun visor, which denotes the exact date the race took place and celebrates the 323 laps completed within the 24 hours. Bronze shift paddles and a bespoke “59 Edition” logo embroidered on the seatback continue the affinity for that particular metal shade.

A replica heritage racing helmet, 1959 blue race suits and replicas of Carroll Shelby’s race gloves are being considered by Aston Martin as accessories.

What about the mechanicals? Head over to our previous post on the Aston Martin 59 to know more.
