The Nissan Skyline may be heading back to Australia, and this time, it could return with a far more focused, enthusiast-driven identity – a manual transmission.
Speaking at the launch of Australia’s first Nismo Performance Centre, Steve Milette, Nissan Australia managing director, hinted that the next-generation Skyline is under consideration for local showrooms. It’s not a confirmation, but it’s enough to get enthusiasts paying attention again.

The Skyline name has been absent from Australia since the early 1990s, when the locally built R31 marked the end of its mainstream run. Only a handful of R32 GT-Rs officially followed before the badge disappeared entirely. Later generations lived on under Infiniti branding, but the Skyline identity never truly returned.
That could soon change. Teaser images for the upcoming 14th-generation model show familiar cues – most notably the signature circular taillights – paired with a sharper, more modern design. This won’t be a retro revival.
It’s likely to retain rear-wheel drive and adopt a version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 found in the Nissan Z. Power could exceed 400 hp, positioning it between the Z and the next-generation GT-R.
