McLaren has just revealed its first-ever neo-retro supercar inspired by the M6GT. It’s called the McL 6GT, which, according to the company, lays the foundations for a newly positioned and highly exclusive type of McLaren supercar beyond the core and expanded portfolio. It is being showcased at Monterey Car Week.
The McLaren McL 6GT is based on a lightweight carbon fibre monocoque and is powered by a V8 engine. Crucially, power is sent to the rear wheels via an “authentic manual transmission”. You read it first here on The Supercar Blog back in July.
McLaren describes the McL 6GT as “tactile, analogue and deeply mechanical”. It comes with hydraulic steering, tactile switchgear with machined aluminium controls, and a gear lever designed for maximum feel and throw.
The exterior design takes inspiration from sports prototype race cars from the 1960s. It actually looks like a modern interpretation of the M6GT, with its low and wide nose and a distinctive Kammback tail.
McLaren has not yet shared the full technical details, though. However, we’ve heard that the car has 750 hp and weighs 1300 kg. The asking price is said to be €1 million, which is about $1.15 million.
