Fresh reports suggest that the Honda Civic Type R HRC may enter production in 2027. The car is expected to be based on a facelifted FL5 Civic Type R, which Honda could reveal before the end of this year.
The project reportedly takes inspiration from the Civic Type R HRC concept shown at the Tokyo Auto Salon. However, development boss Hideki Kakinuma is said to be targeting balanced performance improvements rather than chasing another Nurburgring record.
The concept already gives us a good idea of what to expect. It features a larger front intake, twin air guides, an extended front lip, larger rear-wing endplates and a more substantial diffuser. An HRC-branded radiator and Akrapovic exhaust were also fitted to the show car.
Reports also point to revised suspension tuning, bigger brakes, forged wheels and additional carbon-fibre parts. Some of these changes could also help reduce weight.
The current US-spec Type R produces 315 hp from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder. Japanese reports suggest the HRC could make around 335 hp through software and intake and exhaust upgrades.
