Mercedes-AMG has taken the wraps off the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung – a road-legal high-performance coupe limited to just 30 examples.

The company says that the AMG CLE 646 was developed to deliver an uncompromising driving experience both on winding country roads and on closed circuits. While it is based on the current AMG CLE Coupe, it’s 170 kg lighter, thanks to the use of carbon fibre. It also features a unique wide-body design with an aggressive front end, a fixed rear spoiler and wider wheels and tyres.

Under the hood is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which delivers 646 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. With launch control engaged, the CLE 646 can sprint from 0-124 mph in 11.4 seconds and will reach a top speed of 193 mph.

The AMG CLE 646 comes with a bespoke high-performance exhaust that was developed in collaboration with Akrapovic. It’s not just lighter, but also makes a great sound. The steel coilover suspension was co-developed by Mercedes-AMG and KW Automotive. The car rides on 20-inch rims and comes fitted with carbon ceramic brakes.
