First Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider prototype is ready to begin road trials

Customer deliveries of the Aston Martin Valkyrie began last year. Now that cars have started to roll out at a steady pace, the carmaker has shifted its focus towards the Valkyrie Spider.

Development of the Valkyrie Spider is in full swing, and the first prototypes are now ready to hit the roads. The car you see in this image is said to be the very first test mule of the open-top version with the VIN ending in 81001. It has a Morpheus Blue exterior and what appears to be an all-black cabin.

Like the coupe, the Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider will be produced in limited numbers, 85 units to be exact. It comes with a removable targa top and redesigned doors instead of the gullwing type. This particular car is also said to be equipped with the Track Pack.

The Valkyrie Spider uses the same Cosworth-built 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V12 mated to a Rimac-sourced KERS hybrid system. Its combined output is 1176 hp, channelled to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
