Ferrari 296 GTS: Maranello’s idea of an 830 HP open-top supercar
Ferrari has taken the wraps off the 296 GTS. It’s the much-awaited Spider version of the 296 GTB powered by a brand-new hybrid engine.
The Ferrari 296 GTS gets a retractable hardtop with a roof mechanism that looks similar to the F8 Spider. The new tonneau cover design incorporates an aerodynamic bridge with two flying buttresses on either side. The rest of the car is identical to the coupe. Similarly, the interior has also been carried over unchanged.
Under the rear decklid resides Ferrari’s new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that develops 663 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. The internal combustion engine is paired with an electric motor that boosts the overall output to 830 hp. The 296 GTS comes with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and Ferrari claims it will achieve 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds, which is identical to the coupe, while its top speed is 205 mph.
The 296 GTS is also available with the Assetto Fiorano pack designed for optimal track performance. It includes adjustable Multimatic shocks, a carbon aero kit for added downforce, and an overall weight reduction of 8 kg.
