The new Audi RS6 is currently under development. The C9 generation will be based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture and will be offered in both Avant and Sedan body styles.
The new-gen RS6 was initially expected to debut by the end of this year. However, we’ve been told that the official reveal will take place in March 2027.
Gone are the days when the RS6 was powered by gas-guzzling V8 and V10 engines. The new model will switch to a V6 with a plug-in hybrid setup. While there have been reports about the new RS6 getting a twin-turbo V8 PHEV version, our sources have told us it’s highly unlikely.
That being said, the new V6 plug-in hybrid is no slouch. It is estimated to deliver around 750 hp. Couple that with the all-wheel drive, and you will have a station wagon/sedan that’s both practical and sporty.
Once launched, the C9 Audi RS6 will rival the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63. American customers can rejoice, as the next-gen RS6 Avant will be coming to the US for the 2028 model year.
Why would we Americans rejoice or even care in the first place about this car let alone the avant version making a return but with a V6 Hybrid whenever we could just skip this lump of trash and go straight to our local BMW dealership and buy a G99 M5 Touring with a V8 and a hybrid setup. This is a massive downgrade I dont care if it makes more power than the outgoing one it will sound like some sort of shitbox Infiniti in comparison to what BMW has going on and if this is the direction Audi is going by refusing to listen to what their customer base is willing to buy I will no longer be sad nor surprised when they go out of business.
Whoever wrote this article clearly doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They state that the new RS6 will compete against the Mercedes E63… there is no Mercedes E63 anymore, unless they’re referring to the E63 that went out of production 4 years ago. So I’d take what they say with a grain of salt if they aren’t even aware of what cars actually exist. I’m betting on V8 PHEV for the new RS6. The only evidence we have to the contrary is the exhaust note in some videos of a prototype in testing, which don’t guarantee anything.
No way is Audi going to use the same powertrain as the RS5, tuned up 100hp, and expect anyone to pay a $60k premium for it. They see what happened with Mercedes and the C63 and how ravenous people are for the new Mercedes V8 models, no way are they going to gamble using a power train from a $90k lower class car and expect people not to notice or care.
