Alpine is working on a V6 hybrid supercar with 1000 hp!
French carmaker Alpine is building a 1000 hp supercar. The announcement was made by Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo during the unveiling of the Alpine A390.
While de Meo didn’t divulge any details about Alpine’s most ambitious new project, Top Gear spoke with Alpine boss Philippe Krief, who did reveal some interesting details about it.
According to Krief, Alpine’s supercar will be based on a carbon fibre and aluminium chassis. It will be powered by a turbocharged V6 paired with two electric motors, producing around 1000 hp. The internal combustion engine will power the rear wheels, while the electric motors will provide torque vectoring in the front.
Krief revealed that the powertrain for the new supercar is already under development at Hypertech – a division of Renault based at the World Endurance Technical Centre.
When asked if the car would look like the Alpine Alpenglow concept, Krief said that it would be “very different”. He also mentioned the three main objectives of this project. He said, “One is to bring Alpine up. You need this kind of car as it holds up all the rest of the range. Second, it’s a laboratory of innovation, for the supercar, then for Alpine and then for the whole Group. Third, it will make a good business.”
Alpine’s new V6 hybrid supercar is expected to debut in 2028.
