BYD is preparing to push the Yangwang U9 Xtreme beyond the 500 kmph / 310 mph barrier, with executive vice president Stella Li revealing plans for a high-speed attempt in Dubai in November.

The electric hypercar has already reached 496.22 kmph (308.33 mph) at Germany’s ATP test track on September 14, 2025, with racing driver Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Now, BYD wants to go one step further. Li said the team needs a straight stretch of road around 15 km / 9.32 miles long and will approach Dubai police to find a suitable location. However, the exact venue, permissions and attempt date have not yet been confirmed.

The U9 Xtreme packs four electric motors producing a combined 2,220 kW, equivalent to approximately 2,977 hp. It needs just another 3.78 kmph to cross the 500 kmph mark.

For context, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ reached 490.48 kmph / 304.77 mph in a single-direction run in 2019, while the Koenigsegg Agera RS recorded a two-way average of 447.19 kmph / 277.87 mph in 2017.
