Mercedes-Benz has given its EQS electric limousine a significant update for Australia, with a new entry-level variant making the flagship EV more accessible. The EQS400 arrives this month priced from $184,900 before on-road costs, making it the cheapest EQS sedan offered locally since 2021.
The new EQS400 uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 270 kW (362 hp) and 505 Nm (372 lb ft). It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.2 seconds, but range is arguably its biggest strength.
A new 112 kWh battery and updated 800-volt electrical architecture give the EQS400 a claimed 810 km (503 miles) WLTP range. Its peak DC charging rate has also increased to 350 kW, with Mercedes-Benz claiming up to 320 km (198 miles) of additional range from a 10-minute charge.
The refreshed sedan gets a more imposing front end, with extra chrome, a reshaped bonnet and a new Mercedes star-pattern grille. Digital Light headlights, 21-inch alloy wheels and Airmatic air suspension are standard in Australia.
Inside, the familiar 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen remains the centrepiece, combining three displays.
Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm whether updated EQS450 or AMG EQS53 models will return to Australia, leaving the EQS400 as the sole announced variant for now.
