Porsche plans more wild one-offs through its Sonderwunsch program

It seems that Porsche is only getting started with its Sonderwunsch program. The German automaker plans to expand its bespoke program with more ambitious one-off projects, giving wealthy customers considerably more freedom to create cars to their taste.

According to Alexander Fabig, Porsche’s vice president of product and individualisation, several more long-term projects are already underway and will be revealed over the coming months and years. Most one-off builds take around three years to complete, with the recently revealed Flachbau RS requiring 39 months and three development cars.

Interestingly, customers are also asking for something Porsche might not immediately be expected to build: bespoke four-door sports cars. Fabig says there have been several enquiries, although Porsche’s ultimate response remains unclear.

Porsche says most customers are more interested in body design and personal touches than adding horsepower. For those who want to turn an idea into reality, Sonderwunsch does not come cheap. Reaching the concept phase carries a $150,000 fee, while actually building a one-off car typically starts at around $2 million and can climb rapidly.
