BMW reportedly developing an electric convertible that could debut in 2028

BMW could be working on an electric convertible model. Potentially badged as the BMW i4 Convertible, it is reportedly under development with a targeted debut in 2028.

Internally known as NA3, the BMW electric convertible is expected to follow a familiar formula—four seats, two doors, and a traditional fabric soft top rather than a complex retractable hardtop. It’s a move that keeps weight in check while preserving the classic convertible experience.

A coupe counterpart, codenamed NA2, is also believed to be in the works. Both models are likely to sit on BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse EV architecture, which promises significant gains in efficiency and performance.

While technical details remain under wraps, it’s reasonable to expect multiple drivetrain options. Rear-wheel drive will likely be standard, with dual-motor all-wheel drive variants sitting higher in the range. That opens the door to performance-focused versions as well—perhaps even an M-tuned derivative down the line.
