Koenigsegg isn’t jumping on the electric hypercar bandwagon anytime soon, and that’s a deliberate choice. Speaking during a recent interaction, founder Christian von Koenigsegg made it clear that the company has both the knowledge and capability to build a fully electric hypercar. It simply doesn’t see the point right now.
But interestingly, his opinion and thinking have evolved. A decade ago, he believed that by 2026, Koenigsegg would already have an electric model. But over time, his perspective shifted – not due to limitations in performance, but because of something more emotional.

For Koenigsegg, hypercars are more than just speed. Vibration, sound, mechanical response, character, feel – all these play a crucial role in shaping the driving experience. According to him, combustion-powered cars feel “alive” in a way EVs currently cannot replicate.
That philosophy is why the Swedish brand continues to focus on internal combustion and hybrid systems. It isn’t ignoring electrification – it just believes that, for now, electric power alone doesn’t align with what a hypercar should feel like.
