BYD’s premium Denza brand has officially launched the Z9S in China, and its pricing makes this high-performance electric sedan particularly interesting.
The Denza Z9S is available in three variants, priced from 255,800 yuan ($37,600) to 325,800 yuan ($47,900). That puts it surprisingly close to the China-made Tesla Model 3, which currently costs 235,500-339,500 yuan ($35,150-$50,675).
Range is another major talking point. All three variants use a 102.326 kWh battery, delivering claimed CLTC ranges of 780 km (484 miles), 920 km (571 miles) and up to 1,100 km (683 miles).
Performance varies dramatically depending on the version. The rear-wheel-drive Z9S uses a single motor producing 370 kW (496 hp), while the flagship gets three motors and all-wheel drive. Combined output? A staggering 890 kW (1,194 hp). That’s enough to propel the range-topper from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a claimed 2.68 seconds.
Considering the Z9S stretches beyond five metres in length, those are proper supercar numbers from a sizeable luxury sedan costing less than $50,000.
