The F1 circus was at the Nurburgring last weekend. With the Nordschleife just around the corner, some drivers just couldn’t resist the urge to get a lap or two in on the famous “Green Hell”.
Williams F1 driver George Russell took a Mercedes-AMG GT R around for a lap on what was a typical gloomy Nurburgring evening. The track was wet and slippery and the tires were trying to break traction with the smallest application of the throttle.
While it was not a quick lap, it must’ve been a downright hair-raising experience. George did manage to open the taps of the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 motor on the main straight though. He hit 300 km/h before lifting off, just to be safe.
If you want to see what a really quick lap of the Nordschleife looks like, here’s a video of the AMG GT R lapping the track in 7 min 10 seconds.
Earlier, Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi also took an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio for a spin around the Nurburgring.
