Washing a Ferrari 488 Pista Supercar can be a Stressful Job

Giving your Ferrari 488 Pista a regular wash can be as stressful job, as this car detailer reveals.

Even the most experienced car detailers get stressed out when working on a rare exotic. This video shows how difficult it can be to give a supercar like the 488 Pista a thorough clean.

Cleaning a car involves a few standard steps and it doesn’t take long for an expert to get the desired result. However, getting the grime off the wheels on a supercar like this can be a task in itself. The large brakes and calipers make it difficult to reach tight spaces. The detailer also has to decide which products to use, so that they don’t damage the carbon brake discs or the matte finish on the wheels.

The 488 Pista is designed for optimum track performance. It has various surfaces that are designed specifically to generate downforce, one of which is the S-duct at the front. Apart from that, there are numerous nooks and crannies that are difficult to reach. Therefore, cleaning it can be a tough job. This particular car has a paint protection film (PPF) installed. While the plastic film prevents the paint from scratching up, it means the detailer has to use plastic friendly products. Once the car is thoroughly rinsed, the next job is to dry the car out completely.

The 488 Pista is the most track-focused version of the 488 GTB. It is powered by a 3.9-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 710 hp @ 8000 rpm and peak torque of 568 lb-ft @ 3000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Ferrari also offers a convertible version called the 488 Pista Spider.
