Brooks from Dragtimes finally got a chance to put his McLaren 720S a dyno and the results will surprise you.
McLaren claims that the 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 in the 720S makes 710 hp and 568 lb-ft. Now, car makers are known to put out conservative figures and McLaren is no exception. On the dyno, the 720S made 691 hp at the wheels. If you consider a 10 percent drivetrain loss, the 720S could be making in excess of 760 hp at the crank. The owner however thinks this figure could be even more and estimates that it could be in the range of 775 hp.
We’ve seen how quick the 720S is in a drag race before. It completes the quarter mile in 9 sec and can beat a million dollar Porsche 918 Spyder. So, there’s a good chance that it might have more horsepower than what it says on the sticker.
