The elusive Devel Sixteen spotted driving in China
Long before Bugatti conceived the Tourbillon, there was another V16 hypercar, aptly called the Devel Sixteen. Built by Dubai-based Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry LLC, the car was showcased at the 2013 Dubai Motor Show for the first time.
The Devel Sixteen promised 5000 hp from a 12.3-liter quad-turbocharged V16 engine and a top speed of 348 mph. Unfortunately, it never saw the light of day. Reports suggest that the company did build one car for a Japanese collector. However, it had a much tamer 8-cylinder engine in the back.
Last month, the ultra-rare and elusive Devel Sixteen was spotted in China. A video posted on Instagram shows the hypercar driving through a busy intersection. It has a distinct turbocharged V8 rumble. This engine is said to produce around 1500 hp.
The recent video is proof that a working Devel Sixteen does exist, except that it isn’t the wild V16 version. That being said, this engine was supposed to be manufactured by US-based Steve Morris Engines. It was being developed and there were photos of it mounted on a test bench.
