Tesla has officially pulled the plug on plans to bring the Cybertruck to Australia, ending years of speculation surrounding the futuristic electric truck.
The automaker has informed local deposit holders that their money will be refunded. A letter sent to customers confirmed that production plans for the market had been discontinued.

Tesla is also offering affected customers a small consolation: a complimentary one-year Full Self-Driving Supervised subscription when they purchase a new Model 3 or Model Y.
The Cybertruck’s cancellation isn’t entirely unexpected. The pickup is currently produced only in left-hand drive and isn’t sold in any right-hand-drive market. Bringing it to Australia would therefore require substantial changes.

Tesla Australia has not provided additional details, while the Cybertruck has reportedly been removed from the company’s local website.
The electric pickup was unveiled in the US in late 2019, with Tesla Australia opening reservations for interested customers that November for a $150 deposit.

After waiting several years, local reservation holders will now have to settle for a refund rather than the angular electric truck they originally signed up for.
