Subaru BRZ tS tuned by STI: Mods, Engine Specs, Performance

Subaru just launched the BRZ tS. Well, not exactly the STI we were hoping for. Still, it promises to be “fun to drive” and a “pure handling delight”, according to Subaru.

So, it’s not a BRZ STI but here’s what makes it special.

Subaru BRZ tS-STI wheels

Engineers at Subaru’s in-house tuning division have made a few changes to the BRZ under the skin. The BRZ tS gets STI-tuned front and rear SACHS dampers and coil springs along with flexible V-braces under the hood. The chassis has been further stiffened with new draw stiffeners. These changes have resulted in a better steering response.

The BRZ tS rides on 18-inch lightweight STI wheels shod with 215/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for superior grip. Brembo brakes provide impressive stopping power.

As far as performance is concerned, the BRZ tS does not get any engine upgrades. The focus has been primarily on improving the car’s dynamics.

It does look the part though.

The exterior of the BRZ tS has been designed to look aggressive. Thanks to the exclusive STI rear carbon fiber spoiler it does look like a serious bit of kit and it can be fine-tuned depending on the downforce requirements. Underspoilers on the front, rear and side help guide the airflow further adding stability. Cherry Blossom Red highlight around the front grille adds to the sport appeal.

The interior features black Alcantara upholstery with contrast red stitching on the steering wheel, door panels, dashboard, shifter and even the handbrake boot. Sporty seats get red leather bolsters, matching seat belts and tS logo embroidered in the seatbacks. The center console is finished in black.

The Subaru BRZ tS will be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2018. Prices and specifications will be announced soon.
