The Porsche 911 GT3 was designed for the racetrack. While it can be a great daily driver, its main purpose is to be a fast, responsive and exciting track toy. Hence, the 911 GT3 is only available as a coupe.

Until now, if you wanted an open-top GT3, your only option was the 911 Speedster. Now, though, Porsche might be working on a 911 GT3 Cabriolet.

A test mule of what appears to be the upcoming 911 GT3 Cabriolet was recently spied testing. As you can see, the car clearly has GT3-spec bodywork and a folding soft-top. It has all the special aero bits, including vents behind the front wheel arches like that of the GT3 RS and a sporty rear bumper with dual exhausts in the centre.

Unlike the coupe, which comes with a fixed rear spoiler, the GT3 Cabriolet might get an active rear wing similar to the standard 911 Carrera.

The 911 GT3 Cabriolet could use the same 4.0-liter, flat-6 engine. Currently, this engine produces 502 hp, which is sent to the rear wheels via either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed PDK.
