Next-gen BMW M3 with an inline-six spotted testing at the Nurburgring

1 Min Read

A heavily camouflaged prototype of the next-gen BMW M3 has been spotted lapping the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, giving us an early glimpse of what’s to come.

We can see in the video that the test mule is flaunting its wide fenders, which confirm that this is a full M car. The design cues appear to borrow from the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse. Expect signature elements like the double-yellow headlights and geometric lighting details to make their way into production.

There are still plenty of unknowns. Early reports suggest all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox could become standard, though nothing is confirmed yet. The test car also appears to feature a fixed panoramic glass roof. The interior is expected to be similar to that of the electric BMW M3.

According to reports, the iconic inline-six isn’t going anywhere. The next-generation M3 is most likely to continue using a twin-turbo 3.0-litre engine, likely with the new pre-chamber ignition technology, and possibly even mild hybrid assistance—to meet tightening regulations.
