BMW has given an early look at its next-generation ICE 3 Series. Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with final driving dynamics testing now underway in southern France.

The M350 xDrive gets a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Combined output stands at 326 kW (426 hp) and 580 Nm (427 lb ft), enough to complete the 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) sprint in 4.1 seconds.

BMW says the new sedan retains the outgoing car’s near-perfect weight distribution, while upgraded steering and brakes should make it even sharper through corners. A longer wheelbase and wider tracks are also confirmed, although exact dimensions have yet to be revealed.

The new 3 Series will share some of its styling with BMW’s Neue Klasse-based electric i3, including angular LED lighting and a reworked kidney grille. At the back, the slim, wide taillights will also be present.
