Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series destroys the 911 GT2 RS around Hockenheim
The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is Stuttgart’s answer to the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. However, the mighty Porsche is no match for the Merc around Hockenheim.
The AMG GT Black Series has just demolished the lap time set by the Porsche at the German racetrack. It lapped the GP circuit in 1 min 43.3 seconds – 0.2 seconds quicker than the track-honed GT2 RS MR.
The Black Series is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that pumps out 720 hp @ 6700-6900 rpm and 590 lb-ft @ 2000-6000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Mercedes claims that it will hit 62 mph 3.2 seconds and has a top speed is 202 mph. On the long straight at Hockenheim, the car managed to hit 170 mph. For the timed run, the car was fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R MO1A tires.
We’ve already seen how both cars compare on paper. With a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-6 engine tuned to produce 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, Porsche 911 GT2 RS is no slouch either. Just that, it isn’t as quick as the Merc around this particular track.
In case you were wondering, the McLaren Senna currently holds the lap record on this track.
