Hongqi is preparing to enter the Australian market with a range of electric vehicles, and the Chinese luxury brand has already revealed its pricing strategy. Its cars will be positioned below comparable German models, according to the company’s local management.
The first three models will be electric SUVs. The flagship HQ E-HS9 will take on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, while the smaller EHS4 will compete with the Audi Q4 e-tron and the upcoming electric Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The EHS5 will target the BMW iX3. A sedan is also planned later, roughly matching the size of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6.
Jim Wu, CEO and chairman of Hongqi’s Australian operations, said the brand intends to undercut its key German rivals, following a strategy similar to Zeekr’s approach against Tesla.
Hongqi’s first models are expected to arrive from late 2026, with deliveries beginning in 2027.
