Honda Civic Type R Sets new Nurburgring FWD Record

The Honda Civic Type R just broke the Nurburgring FWD record, again. The lap record which was held by the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S was smashed on April 3, 2017 by the new Civic Type R clocking a 7 min 43.8 sec lap of the Green Hell. Honda were able to shave 5.41 sec off of the Golf’s time making them the undisputed “king of the ring”- at least for now.

The record setting car had 316 hp from its 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC engine and 295 lb-ft of torque. The new model comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox with shorter ratios that suit the Nurburgring. It also weighs 16 kg less than its predecessor. The shell of the new Civic Type R is 16 percent stiffer and a new multi-link rear suspension further aides handling.
