John Hennessey, CEO of Hennessey Performance, has announced the name of the brand’s next hypercar. It’s called the Blackbird, inspired by the legendary SR-71 Blackbird aircraft.

The Hennessey Blackbird is the third hypercar built by the Texas-based company, after the Venom GT and Venom F5. Hennessey claims that it’s a “different kind of hypercar,” and we can see why.

Instead of using the same twin-turbo V8, Hennessey opted for an all-new naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine developed by Ilmor Engineering. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels.

This old-school setup should make the Blackbird a true driver’s car. It is made entirely from carbon fibre with aerospace-inspired bodywork and active vertical stabilizers.

Hennessey is positioning the Blackbird as the “ultimate touring hypercar.” Therefore, it should be more usable compared to the Venom F5 and a tad bit practical as well.

Production will be limited to just 71 units. More details will be available later today after the car is officially unveiled.
