Ford & Shelby Working on a new Mustang with 1,000+ HP

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 packs 760 hp, which frankly is more than enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The good folks at Carbuzz have learned that Ford and Shelby are working on a new Mustang that would be more powerful than the 2020 Shelby GT500.

The Mustang Shelby GT500 media drives recently concluded in Las Vegas. During the event, Ford and Shelby American officials disclosed the possibility of a new model that would outperform the latest GT500.

Carroll Shelby once said, “There is never enough horsepower… just not enough traction.” So, obviously, Shelby American was unlikely to call it a day with a mere 760 hp. As long as the chassis can handle it, they will probably make it. But, how much higher can the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 be tuned before it goes KaBoom! Well, Ford Performance Marketing Manager, Jim Owens thinks that it would have to be at least 1,000 hp.

At present, the most powerful Mustang offered by Shelby is the Super Snake. It packs a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that pushes out 800 hp and has a claimed 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds.

If you are willing to look beyond Shelby, Hennessey offers a performance upgrade for the 2020 Shelby GT500 that can boost output to 1,200 hp. The Venom 1200 package comes with new pistons and con-rods, a new fuel system, an upgraded intercooler, along with a twin-turbo supercharger. With 1,000 lb-ft of torque, even Carroll Shelby would approve of it.
