Chris Harris loves Porsches, but we’ve rarely seen him drive the greatest Porsche of them all, the Carrera GT. This time, when he got a chance to get behind the wheel of this analogue beast, the weather gods had a different plan.
Driving a Carrera GT in sub-optimal conditions on a damp track can be both fun and terrifying, as Chris found out first-hand. Still, Chris, being Chris, the first thing he did was turn the traction control off.
603 hp may not sound much by modern supercar standards, but it was enough to get the Carrera GT sideways, despite it being fitted with the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. It’s not the easiest car to drive, but it sure is the most engaging. You have to constantly wrestle it, especially with no electronic aids to save your bacon.
Then there’s the 5.7-liter V10 engine. Probably the greatest naturally aspirated internal combustion engine ever made. The first thing you notice is the characteristic howl. Put your foot down, dump the tricky ceramic clutch, and ride the linear surge of power until you hit the red line.
