Aston Martin Vantage & DB12 could go the hybrid route in future

The 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish made its global debut earlier this week. Gaydon has not only brought back the ‘Vanquish’ name tag – a brand in itself, but has also retained the V12 engine.

Aston Martin has said that the Vanquish will always be a pure-petrol GT. However, it hasn’t ruled out plug-in hybrids for other sports cars like the Vantage and DB12.

Speaking with the media, Simon Newton, Director of Vehicle Performance at Aston Martin, said, “The V12 defines the car”. He added, “What we picked improves the recipe. We haven’t paid the weight penalty. It’s a very analogue but highly sophisticated experience, and that’s what we wanted.”

When asked about the possibility of plug-in hybrid versions of the Vantage and DB12, Newton said, “We have an open mind in all technologies right now.”

Currently, both the Vantage and DB12 use an AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The plug-in hybrid version of the same engine is already in use in other AMG models.
