Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante is the brand’s Fastest Convertible Ever
Convertible lovers can now turn their attention towards the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante – a 211 mph open top missile from the house of Aston Martin.
A few days ago, Aston Martin revealed the first production unit of the limited edition DBS 59 Superleggera series. Not so interested in the hardtop Aston? Well, everyone who wishes to have a wind-in-the-hair experience onboard a DBS Superleggera can now shell out the money in the bank on this – the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante.
Priced at an astronomical $329,100, the 211 mph Superleggera Volante is the fastest convertible ever to wear the winged badge. Making the drop top as fast its hardtop sibling is the twin-tubrocharged 715 hp, 664 lb-ft, 5.2-liter V12 engine mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s slightly slower in the 0-62 mph dash compared to the coupe, taking 3.6 seconds to accelerate to the mark. An all-new aero pack comprising of a front spoiler, air dam, side strakes that are deeper than those on the coupe, a new rear diffuser and Aeroblade II deliver the necessary downforce of 390 pounds.
The Aston Martin Superleggera DBS Volante is heavier than the coupe by 375 pounds, tipping the scales at 4,107 pounds. We are looking at you – the retractable roof mechanism – which certainly added a bit of additional weight along with the overall strengthening exercises that the chassis had to go through. That’s always the norm when a coupe transforms into a convertible.
US customers will have to wait until the third quarter of 2019 to place their bookings for the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante. Buyers can choose from eight different colors for the eight-layered soft top. There is also the twill carbon-fiber mesh finish for the windscreen surround, rear waterfall in the cabin and the rear tonneau cover.
