New hardcore Lexus RX spy shots reveal fresh exterior & interior details

1 Min Read

Lexus appears to be getting serious about a high-performance version of the RX, with the latest prototype now testing hard at the Nurburgring. This time, some of the camouflage has been removed, revealing a few interesting clues about what is hiding underneath.

The biggest change is on the bonnet. A large mesh-covered air inlet sits ahead of the windscreen, suggesting the prototype could be using forced induction. It also fits with earlier reports of a four-cylinder engine working alongside electric motors on both axles.

The combined output is expected to be around 600 hp, which would make this RX considerably more serious than the regular SUV.

The latest spy shots also offer our first look inside. The driver gets a heavily bolstered bucket seat with red stitching, giving the cabin a distinctly sporty feel.

Elsewhere, however, it is clearly still a development car. The centre console is unfinished, with exposed wiring and a diagnostic tablet replacing the normal infotainment display.

There is still plenty we don’t know about the hardcore Lexus RX yet, but the Nurburgring testing and exposed hardware suggest development is moving in the right direction.
